Just looking for general info.
What might I expect to pay for one, dependant on condition, hours etc…?

What about using a Porsche PFM3200? Would give you real power w/o upetting your CoG. 😎

Funny that the guy with the plane reckons that “Lycomings are crap” – they seem like good value to me!

Wonder how that compares with other popular kit planes engines given their shorter TBO times? Yet that’s not he whole picture is it?
TCO factors: TBO, cost of unit replacement, parts, maintenance, fuel burn
I feel a formula coming on! 🙁

Thanks for the info 🙂

About £6 per dry flying hour

And how much would that skin me…??

2400 hrs TBO on the -L2A 118hp variant (such as in the Robin HR200 and C152 I think) at around 5gph and in full training service making it a very tough, long living engine.

Or you could have a new 120 hp six-cylinder Jabiru 3300 for about £8600.

Good question. The aircraft this engine is needed for is a 3/4 Spitfire IX replica. I’m not entirely sure an O-200 would be “right” for it, given it’s only 100hp.
The O-200, however, is fine for the smaller Spitfire in the second pic. I have plans for it, but this larger one is available….!

As an afterthought, why don’t you go for Continental O-200. Roughly the same power, but a bit cheaper both to buy and operate. Expect half-live Continental at around $4000.

The horsepower rating varies a bit according to dash number. The most numerable out there is the 108 hp variant like the one in the Cessna C 152, but 115 hp and even 125( 😮 ) hp are apparently out there.

Phew! Looks like I’ll have to start saving my pennies then….!
Had a look at Barnstormers.com and a few O-235s were popping up on there (most of them unfortunately attached to aircraft!).
What sort of power are we talking? About 115hp? I can’t pin down any figures for the type 🙁

It is a bit difficault to nail down any final number on this one. But I’ll try 😉
For an outright purchace of an overhauled O235 (from a reputable shop), expect to pay around $15.000. If you have a core for exchange, expect the overhauled engine to be yours for about $11.000. Far more feasible would be to by an engine at approximately half live. That would mean, the engine would have about 1200 Hours left to run before overhaul, which would be around 12 years worth of flying for a normal homebuilt. The asking price for a half live O-235 is usually around $6000.
Hope this helps 😀
