Info Request: Spitfire R7192

Hi all

Looking for info on Spitfire R7192, I believe this aircraft should be “City of Peterborough”. Does anyone have any info about the codes/markings this aircraft would have carried? It spent most of its operational time with 111 Squadron before being struck-off. From circumstantional evidence I believe it was flown by a Czech pilot during the air ops against the “Channel Dash” of the German Battleships in 1942. One of the pilots that flew it was Josef Prihoda and I have found a Czech internet page listing a 109 damaged or destroyed whilst he was flying this particular Spitfire.

From the internet I have found the following:

R7192 Vb

1506 EA (Eastleigh) MIII FF
8-3-41 9MU
12-3-41 92S
23-3-41 111S
25-8-41 GAL (General Aircraft Limited)
5-10-41 111S
6-1-42 Collided with BL429 during take-off Debden
14-3-42 FACE : Flying accident Category E:
31-3-42 Stuck off charge (SOC)

I have a photocopy of a wartime pic of the aircraft from the local paper, but believe this will be a generic Spitfire photo sent to appease those that raised the money for the aircraft.

If anyone has any more gen, please can you PM me.

Thanks

R7192 – Not ‘City of Peterborough’ but ‘Peterborough and District’.

JU-L of 111 Squadron.

A full report in Air Britain’s ‘Gifts of War’.
