1 ) Can some one provide me more information on the new multirole RIF-M , the newer lighter one based on the S-400SAM , Its said to be capable of being installed on ships above 3000Tons and has a range from 40-150 KM.
Pictures of the newer missile would be appreciative , also whats sort of Fire Control Radar does it use.
2 ) MR-700M active phased-array radar , is that a new APAR from Russia , Groshkov will be carrying them.
Thanks
Cheers
Austin

Note in the Figure of Project 21956 attached to Page 12 of the Russian Navy News & Discussion, Part III that 40N6 is reported with a mass of 2.000 kg and a top speed of 2.3 km/s. Another source claim the 40N6 mass is around 2.200 kg. So, in the end the “Big Missile” is likely an evolution of the 48N6 family rather than a 2-stage weapon, as it was speculated some time ago.
The evolution on the top speed seems also to confirm this hypothesis. From 2 km/s of the 48N6E (S-300PMU1) to 2.1 km/s of the 48N6E2 (Favorit system), to 2.2 km/s of the 48N6DM (early S-400 system) to 2.3 km/s of the 40N6.
So the replacement of older 48N6E missiles by 40N6 in Russian cruisers should not be difficult at all since 40N6 is a stockier 48N6 with an active seeker likely carried in the same canister type.

1) Rif M is installed in bow station on Piotr Veliky CBGN. Currently it still uses the 48N6E2 missile from Favorit (S-300PMU2) and respective FCS – 30N6E1 radar, AFAIK.
It ispossible to install 9M96E and 9M96E2 missiles from S-400 SAM. These missiles are much smaller than 48N6 (330 and 420 kg compared to 1800 kg) and they have respective range of 40 and 120 km. Four of them can be installed in one launch container of 48N6, much like ESSM quad launcher. Nevertheless, there are no indications, that this has been actually done on Piotr.
2) Regarding Your second question, it should be long range 3D Podberiozovik radar, an intended replacement for Voshod radar in Flag radar complex, installed on 1144, 1164 and others larger units. You can read about it here:

Hi Snake65
I have a question about the RIF-M system on Piotr Veliky:
They used 48N6E2 from S-300PMU and the fire control radar 30N6E1, both of them have maximum range of engagement of 200km in the equivalent system but why in the Rif-M their range are only 150km?
Is there any problems that affect the performance of the radar/missiles or both when convert them from ground-based to sea-based system?

Is 30N6E1 the one in the picture left?

What’s the NATO code for Podberiozovik?
By: Wanshan - 22nd September 2005 at 17:37
there is also a version of the RIF M system( 30N6 radar / 16 VLS)developed for corvette …..
what’s the difference between the PODBEREZOVIK ,FREGAT and POZITIV radar ???
Antenna size, band and power output mainly > different optimizations/functions (long, medium and short range 3d search). Also, made by different companies.

From what little i know about this
PODBEREZOVIK :- Is a C-band Radar , comes in 3 variant and has a maximum range of 500 Km and can track different number of targets , Modernised Groshkov has been shown with the PODBEREZOVIK radar.
FREGAT : Again comes in different variant , depending on the Power Output of the radars ,Has a max range of 300 Km , also can track different number of targets depending on the variant, Besides Russia , The Chinese and the Indian navy widely uses Fregat.

During the Naval exhibition in St.Peter some of the prospects did mention a new and unidentified 3D radar in the same group as Fregat, Pozitiv ME1, Mars-Passat. There is only designation available “Furke”, guess this may be the Russian APAR.

Thanks Snake65 , The Indian are looking at RIF-M the newer one 9M96E and 9M96E2 missiles with lighter missile as a possible long range anti-air/missile (SAM) , along with Aster-15/30 as their next gen ship based SAM.
After reading about the radar its in no way a APAR , some Indian Defence publication had mentioned the MR-700M as APAR. The 3D Podberiozovik radar still have a phenomenal range of 500KM comparable to western radar like RAN-40L/SMART-L although the later is a APAR and could possible track a large no of targets with all the advantage an APAR can offer.
Too Bad Russia still dosent have a Long Range Active Phased Array Radar for Naval applications.
