There was a news item on the news last night that a (continental) jet, Boeing 747 was in a storm which created heavy turbulence which left four people injured. Could someone confirm this or describe what happened?
regards,

RE: Injured on a aeroplane
Few years back my Grandparents were flying out of SYD bound for LAX with UAL on a 744. They experienced very severe CAT and hit a typhoon over the pacific. People were injured, although the aircraft managed to land safely in Los Angeles.

RE: Injured on a aeroplane
The worst part of turbulence in the world is known to be over the Hindukush mountains, that is Afghanistan, Tajakistan etc. Worst case was a Aeroflot Il 62, experienced so much turbulence that 17 people fainted…it made an emergency landing at Tashkent!

RE: Injured on a aeroplane
This very UA 747 was the same one involved in the ‘clear air’ turbulance incident on Wednesday May 1. The jet fell suddenly for a few seconds apparenlty. Back luck plane if you ask me. And yes quite a few people were injured in the turbulance incident, one at least seriously.

RE: Injured on a aeroplane
Apparently the UA 747 in question had to turn back to Auckland and make another emergancy landing because it had malfunctioning flaps and it was loosing air pressure.

This is a well know problem flying over south pacific.
Those turbulences are very powerful indeed.
Too many people are goofing off in the plane without there seat belt properly fasten and this kind of accident is unfortunately not that rare.

RE: Injured on a aeroplane
Don’t think it was a CO 747 as they don’t operate that type anymore. It was a United 747 hit by bad turbulance.Link to CNN is below:
