The Moscow Times is reporting that the INS Vikramaditya won’t be ready until 2011! According to the article they grossly underestimated the complexity of the reconstruction? (now thats a surprise!) Regardless, the manager of the ship yard has been fired and a long delay is now a given….. 😮 😮

Well, the light bulb went off just as I hit the send button……..I just saw the twin tails and thought Su-35???
Nah. Twin-seated Su-35 exists, sure, but it has been pretty silent around this version for a while.

This seems to be usual practice for MiG in recent years. Mig29OVT also maid first flight baremetal. On the other hand, Sukhoi’s planes are always painted.

Funny, on how the Russian seem to go with very large islands vs Western Types? Interesting camo on the Mig-29K’s…..

It’s about use of CAD in designing necessary scaffolds:diablo:
Still very interesting and shows more drawing of the Indian Carrier nonetheless………..

Generally even on a first flight an aircraft will have some kind of paint job, if for no other reason than for publicity photos; The only example of a fighter making it’s first flight ‘naked’ that springs to mind is the Sea Harrier FRS1 in 1978. Positive press is always an important part of any arms programme and it feels like a missed opportunity here on the part of the Russian firm. Perhaps they are used to the Soviet way, and publicity photos are still a bit strange to them unlike their western counterparts.

Seems they are in good company…
If you’re thinking of this as a special publicity occasion for the MiG-29K project, then perhaps it is a bit unusual, after all the photos above do not show the first airframes off the production line for the respective programmes. However the examples prove that it’s nothing unusual, let alone technically ‘wrong’, even in the West.

Paint isen’t free nor is the paintjob…
But then again should we be arguing more about the actual aircrafts performance which actually does matter rather than its coloursceme? The MiGs could be painted pink for all I care, still it wouldn’t affect on its actual capability.
