Luna-3 and Glissada-N are optical landing systems, Luna is very similar to what the Amers have. For all-weather landings there is Rezistor-K, that’s the cylindric thing on top, just below the Fregat radar.

Well…. Nothing more boring than pictures of a boiler, no? here’s a view inside the boiler showing how it looks when it’s wasted. Tube 1 breaks off, put in a skegg, tube 2 breaks, put in another skeg, and so on, untill tube 10 breaks and it doesn’t seem to work well anymore

The light landing system is indeed there, it’s called the Luna system if I remember correctly. There are better pictures of it though.
Your picture comes from the site of the Kinloss RAF base. They took the pictures back when kuznetsov was going from the Med to the North, her first deployment and real ocean trip, the system was not yet finished by that time. You can see the centre “bow”, but the light bars are not yet attached.

Spot on with the source of the photo I was wondering if anyone would know that 😀

I presume that there light system is similar in operation to the American one, whats the point of reinventing the wheel. I was aware that they also had quite a sophisticated blind landing system as well using some form of data link, I could be wrong on this so any clarrification from someone would be good.

Oh well guys it looks like boilers are the only part of the Gorshkov we are going to see for the moment.

On another note, which Russian company makes the deck landing systems like the arrester gear engine and the landing guidence system. I would be interested to know how they compare to American systems. For that matter does the Kuznetsov even have a Frenel lens type optical landing system or do they have a different solution to the problem?

The picture below is only one I can find with what could be a frenel lens. The object on the platform on the portside close to the end of the angled flight deck.

Gorshkov has 4 turbines TV-12-3 rated at 50k HP each. I don’t know if they have any relation to TV-12 turboprops installed on Tu-95 bomber, but each of them is rated at around 15k HP and if You multiply it by 3… 😎

“Training?”

Where will this extra “training” boiler end up?

I was assuming that it wouldn’t be installed deep in the bowels of the carrier. Did I assume wrong?

It will be a land-based training station.

what are you talking about are you referring to the MRCA???

it should be able to takeoff from ski jump only question is amount of payload it can carry. I dont think that was big of issue i believe reason it wasnt procued in the end was mainly due to price and maintenence issue.

Yes, to your first question…………..

If, India is going to buy yet another fighter. It needs to move on to at least 4.5 Generation Type. (i.e. Typhoon, Rafale, etc.)

what are you talking about are you referring to the MRCA???

i don think so … Rafale is not a lifting body design like the MiG-29 or the Su-27s (neither is the F-18 to that extend) and that makes them to depend on their sheer thrust , whcih Rafakle don have enough, and i really doubt if thay cud take off from ski-jump … if there has been any ase of them haveing shown from ground based ones, i’d have considered the prospect of them taking off ….

it should be able to takeoff from ski jump only question is amount of payload it can carry. I dont think that was big of issue i believe reason it wasnt procued in the end was mainly due to price and maintenence issue.

really? …. first u beg for a non-issue like the N-deal (as if no one else can provide u the same) and only if that goes thru can the F-16/18 etc etc can come online …

Do u know what made India to agree to Nuclear deal with US admin.

India isnt begging to anyone for anything. We are giving top dollar & getting the stuff. Update urself on that.

Snake65,

i’ve seen the CG of the same …what i expected was a pic of the real boilers. As by now, 9 of them shud have been ready …

Well since the JSF is more than ten years away from possible Indian service then it might not be a bad idea to spend a (comparatively) small amount of some -16s or -18s now and then see how the issues of supply and maintenance work out over the coming decade. Personally I think a buy of a US aircraft is worth it just to get the systems and weapons. India will be in the enviable positionof being able to truly select the best weapon/system for the job from virtually the entire worlds weapons catalouge

It wud be better, if India movee forward for a full ToT deal for the F-414 and that will also provide for a first rate info as to how the support for the same is w/o spending multi-billion dollars on a/c …

In the first case, millions wud be lost, but the second case (going for f-16/18)wud be significantly higher w/o any replacement for the lose of more than half a decade …
