That is something else, trouble is I can just imagine quite a few model makers currently digging large holes in their gardens with a view to disposing of some of their formerly proud achievements.

They return in various ways and if you looked at the website link I think it shows the spiral tracks rising around two towers which take the tracks onto the upper floor and then down the other side.

Awsome! Wonder what happens when they get to the end? do they go under the table and back round or??

How do the taxiing aircraft move and steer? I’m assuming that they have batteries and motors driving the main landing-gear but how do they steer? There is clearly an extended ‘steering dolly’ attachment on their nose-wheels; is this sensing a ‘track’ beneath the taxiways?

There is a metal rail just underneath the road/runway surface and a magnet on the steering follows it. Much as is done with OO scale buses and other vehicles if you want the rest of your layout to be live and not just the trains.

If anybody questions me further on the subject, I’ll deny everything….

If anyone watched James May’s attempts to build the longest external model railway track in Devon you will have seen the two Germans who conceived and built the Hamburg exhibit, participating in James’ project.

Are the landing aircraft (supported by poles from underneath, not suspended from wires as the article suggests) able to disconnect from the landing / take-off poles and then taxi to the terminal? One of the landing aircraft seems to have the same ‘steering dolly’ attachment on its nose-wheel as the other taxiing aircraft.

I think this models owners have asked for planning permission to extend the runway & maybe build an additional runway 4 to cope with the increase in traffic , expected , by 2016!!!!

I wonder if it is the same two Germans who have built and operate the world’s largest model railway in a vast warehouse in Hamburg, I think….
