Ive just spent for what for me is a large sum of money having my computer formated and windows installed twice now, and its still not running right. Ive run this thing called “one button checkup” on Norton antivirus, and it came up with about 65 errors total just in the windows registry analysis. Its time for me to learn how to install windows myself and not depend on others, so Ill always know its done right. Ive seen windows XP installed before, and it looks easy to do. What Im worried about is the BIOS configuration. Can anyone give me any tips on installing winXP with a win98 partition for someone who doesnt know anything about the inner workings of a computer? And are there any good websites that gives a good fool proof explanation for the first timer?

Mixtec.
I may be wrong because I’m not too good with these things but the first time I reformatted and used the one button check up I had a lot of errors. I was told it could be due to having to install service packs? Once you’ve gone through begin fix you should be ok. I have had no problems at all since except the odd shortcut error which is fixed in the same way.

Just done my first reformat / reinstallation of Windows 2000. Not difficult at all. However, it took me ages (and phone calls to friends!) to reconfigure my internet connection and outlook express. That was the only problem. It’s running lovely now, and when I finish downloading the programs and drivers that I should have, and burnt them to CD, i’m going to do it all again to get it totally clean (ie no failed installations or putting in drivers that don’t work etc).
