Instrument Panel I.D. required please

Here’s a little item from my collection. I bought it at (iirc) a Tangmere Aerojumble many years ago.

The chap I bought it off had no idea what aircraft it came from and I have not been able to identify it so far.

So, over to you 1950/60/70’s experts!

Clues:-

1. The only part number I can detect seems to be J52J1351 X135 Iss 11. The number may not be quite right as the back of the panel looks to have been bead blasted at some time and some detail has been lost. There is an Inspector’s stamp alongside the number but it is just too faint to make out.

2. The panel has the Flap Limitations engraved upon it: Flaps take Off 175 Knots Landing 125 Knots.

3. The three small holes for warning lamps on the l.h.s. read AYF-LIMIT-LIGHTS from the top down.

4. The vertical cut-out at the lower edge is marked COMP – GYRO.

4. The small switch cut-out at the top, left is marked PRESSURE HEAD HEATER.

5. The lower central cut-out is marked GMIVB (even I could recognise that one).

And that’s about it. It’s obviously from a single cockpit, being just 28.75″ across. It’s manufactured from quite thin sheet and the whole thing looks to have been mounted on four suspension points, hence no seperate BFP.

It would make a nice project for someone, but can we get it properly identified first please? 🙂

Blimey, surprise to me aswel, looks more modern, in fact more modern than a Gannet panel.

H.M.S. Vulture has identified it as the upper instrument panel from a Fairey Firefly AS.7.

A real surprise to me as I’ve several cockpit photos of various Firefly Marks, and none of them look remotely like this one. I really expected it to be from some boring old (to me anyway) jet.

I cannot see me turning this into an instrument panel project, so I may well part with it.;)

Thanks, Andrew, for the rapid i.d!
