Thanks Mark,

I have a pair of RPM’s 6A-778 (early type) for the Comet project and was sold a pair of RPM generators said to be the correct ones No 6A-4333780 (KGA043). This number seems long but is on the label on the side.

I have been offered another RPM which looks closer in design to those originaly used ..No 6A-1429 and I wondered if the generators I have will still work, but have also seen some other generators 6A-1549 .This is why I was asking about a list to try and help me see if things will match up

Will the lists you have help?

Thanks

ken

Ken,

my listing is a RAAF WW2 Stores publication “Types and Location of Instruments in RAAF”, and as such only lists instruments etc used in the RAAF’s aircraft, however the 6A/778 is listed

The entry is:

RAAF Ident No: G6A/778
RAF Ident No: 6A/778
Maker: A.M.
Type: mk IVB
Detail: 0-5000 (A.C.) Lum.
Aircraft fitted: Beaufighter, Mosquito DH98, Sunderland mkII, Mosquito Mk XVI

The same document lists the following generators as suitable for the same indicator and aircraft, (using the same entry labels as above):

G6A/780
6A/780
A.M.
mkIV
AC for mk IVA & IVB 4:1 ratio

G6A/889
6A/889
Kollsman
mk IV
AC for mk IVA ind 4:1 ratio

Hope that might be of some assistance

thanks for the info posted, Can I just confirm the Comet these are for is the DH88 Comet with the Gipsy Queen engines.
Seems I may have the wrong generators then which is a pity as they are brand new.

The Comet referred to in AP1086 Sec 6A is the jet Comet and not the piston engined variety as 4 generators are listed! So maybe some wires got crossed in translation between Comet types as you appear to have 2 out of the 4 required for the jet Comet.

6A/1429 is a MkVA Luminous 900-4000 rpm indicator

6A/4420

6680-99-433-3780 is the full nato stock number of 6A-4333780, which was
6A/4420.
May have more details on the other items, but this will have to wait until tommorow.

6A ref numbers

Hi Ken,

Attached is an extract from AP1086 dated 1966 which shows 6A/4420 equating to either KB153/03 or KGA-0403 but listed for COMET ONLY

6A/6680-99-4333780 is the current Sec/Ref for 6A/4420 and is in Nato Stock Number Sec/reference style.

Hope that helps.

6A/780 generators match with 6A/778 instruments. (and 6A/1299)

I guess it depends on the range of the alternatives you have been offered as to whether the generators will still work.

Ken,

I have a paper copy of the RAAF inventory of instruments and ancillory equipment in the 6A-numbers, however it may omitt items not utilised in Australia?

Is there a specific 6A number you are researching?

Hi Ken

You need to speak to Alan Hulme – he has produced a fantastic series of guides on Air Ministry equipment.

I’m sure he’ll see your post and respond.

Any more of these in the pipeline Alan?
