Just read on Jane’s that Singapore is finalising a deal that will see two of the Swedish Navies A-17 Vastergotland class subs transfered over to them. This will put the RSN in a good standing with four A-14 and two A-17’s.
The A-17 class is similar to our Type 471 Collins Class subs, though they are smaller and don’t have the same combat capabilities as ours (those ones actually work :dev2: ) But the main difference is that these boats can’t take an AIP, ours can because they are much bigger.
Still the deal is interesting.

Adding to this old story, I now read that the RSN is to retire two of the A-14’s when these new A-17’s come over in 2010, wonder what they will call these new vessels.

Thanks Radar, it would be interestign to see if the RSN opt for the boats with this important modification or without, of course it would be expencive.

sweden moderniest their remaining a17 with aip by inserting a new 10m part in the pressure hull, so it should be not impossilbe.
