Interesting book

Iv’e just been reading a very interesting book written by retired Qantas 747 skipper Captain John Winslow
The book is called “Mayday” and differs from the usual aircraft disaster books because it lists 17 amazing true stories of aircrew fighting near impossible odds to bring their crippled aircraft back to earth with amazing success
I don’t know if it’s been released overseas yet, but it’s well worth the read.

I’ll have to get it just for the “Southern Cross” story – Right Steve?

I have the book; it is excellent reading. I wish though the author would have provided a little more background info on the events and aircraft. Just placing some of the exact dates of the incidents would have helped. It’s a good follow up to the Air Disaster series, but not as detailed. Some of the incidents did result in crashes though.

It has 17 chapters on:
1. British Airways 747
2. Royal Navy Sea Hawk
3. China Airlines 747
4. Royal Navy Scimitar
5. Aloha Airlines 737
6. Trans World Airlines 727
7. Air Canada 767
8. Pan American World Airways 707
9. Japan Airlines 747
10. British Airways 1-11
11. Kabo Air Charter 707
12. United Airlines 747
13. United Airlines DC-10
14. Air Transat A330
15. Cessna 188 & Air New Zealand DC-10
16. Air Canada DC-9
17. Fokker F.7/3M TriMotor “Southern Cross” epic story

I’ve seen that book at the LHS in Aalsmeerderbrug (near Schiphol), so it has been released to Europe. If I am not mistaken I have also seen it at one or more WHSmith’s in the UK.
