I thought I’d point this book out that I just found while surfing ebay. in case anyone is interested – it’s a book of paintings and drawings by S/Sgt Robert A. Laessig, following the career of the WWII US 13th AIR FORCE. Looks really interesting.
The question is – one painting/drawing title I notice is called “Wimpy’s In The Russells”
Now, I may be misconstruing some US term or nickname and probably am, but I thought I’d better ask – could this have been Wellington bombers? Were Wellingtons ever used in any capacity in the Pacific?

The name ‘Wimpy’ was from the American cartoon ‘Popeye’, refering to charecter ‘J Wellington Wimpy’, so the chances of a US reference to something other than a British bomber is quite high.
