The Government is currently undertaking a wide-ranging consultation into the future of aviation over the next 30 years. The Department for Transport is now seeking people’s views by 30 June 2003 on what airport options should be considered for the UK.

It has been 15 years since the Government last consulted on UK aviation and Alastair Darling, the Secretary of State for Transport, has acknowledged that our airports need to expand. When announcing the review he said: “Doing nothing is not an option.” As part of the consultation process the Government wants to hear the views of aviation users.

Extra capacity at our major airports, particularly Heathrow, is vital to the future development of bmi and of the whole UK economy. bmi will be submitting our own detailed company views to Government and I would encourage you also make your own contribution to the debate.

I strongly urge you to show your support for this initiative and take a moment to fill in our online postcard. By doing so you will be helping to ensure the UK remains one of the world’s leading economies, safeguarding thousands of jobs across the UK and allowing you to continue to fly on a choice of airlines from Heathrow.
