Not a fighter pilot
I should mention that Viv Herret was not a pilot but a member of the ground crew (Fitter).
His dairy is well known in Aussie Aviation research circles, extensive quotes from it having been used in Russel Brown’s history of RAAF (and other Aussie) P-40 usage in the 1941-43 North African campaigns titled ‘Desert Warriors’ – much recommended.
And yes Viv’s diary is well worth reading online.
