In the last year, at least, the CAA has been weeding out the registration records and owners who have had CAA mail returned “gone away” are having their aircraft de-registered. Many re-appear a few months later when contact is re-established.

I am beginning to think this Spitfire doesn’t actually exist.

So are to gather that if one were to miraculously appear in FOUR weeks… you’d be playing the leading roll in a new Hamlet commercial? 😉

Blimey, all a bit elaborate isn’t it!
Wouldn’t that practical joke have incurred costs and possibly the wrath of the CAA?

I think the attention of the writer of said mail was at least temporarily diverted onto another target! 😉

I did wonder who was selling all that stuff!
I’m pleased to say that its a while since I received any of that mail!

Having read both posts I still don’t get the significance of timing here?
So three weeks before the publication of what many will consider to be the defiintive work on Surviving Spitfires and following strategic ebay component sales in recent months, the contentious ‘Turkish’ Spitfire, with not one sighting in ten years, is de-registered and ‘gone away’.
I am beginning to think this Spitfire doesn’t actually exist.
A view that has been rewarded with a two inch thick file of ‘anonymous’ hate mail passed on to me from around the globe.
Pathetic.

The addressee status of ‘gone away’ seems more interesting.
To the Big House?

Bruce,
Correct.
Reference, however, has to be made to the British Civil Registration G-CBNU for completeness of the records.
