Hi guys
Not posted here for a while! But Have just recently Been Handed some Items That my Aunt had kept for us,so future Generations could just look back at.
During the War my Aunt kept a diary from the start of the war till the End she was 11 yrs old at the time and my father was 9 Living in the South East Ramsgate kent,
For years my dad told stories of the War and the Planes dogfighting and having to scramble to the Anderson Shelter in the Garden.
My Grandad was in the Homeguard and he had a busy time of it too! just recently found His certifacate of service from the HomeGuard.
My scanner has been working overtime I do hope you Enjoy the little snippets from there Days down on the coast

A Giant of a man on the Big guns at Calais ?

Most definitely. It is always good to get the story from the ‘other’ side. Such documents are one of the few ways those of us who didn’t live through the actual events can actually begin to understand the thinking of the people at the time.

Absolutely fascinating. One gets the impression that the sirens were only sounded for about 50% of raids and 50% of the times the sirens were sounded were false alarms.

Schanche, thank you for sharing your family diaries, all I can say is WOW. I thoroughly enjoyed reading them, and Im guessing that one of the dates with the aircraft returning without gliders was referring to Op Market Garden. Thankyou again.
