International Air Power Review Journal Vol.1

LAST EDITED ON 11-09-01 AT 05:45 AM (GMT)[p]Well done to AIRtime publishing on the first volume of the new journal, just got mine yesterday (yes, 8 weeks from the US East coast by sea). Well worth that wait though.

The new journal is roughly the same size of the previous WAPJ & WOF volumes but now covers both topics. One highlight I noted right away was the Air Intel section has been expanded and now includes far more detailed data on procuremnts, upgrades and so on across the globe, very handy reading.

Some of the same artwork (and old content) has been re-used to an extent obviously, and I do look forward to some new profiles and gate-fold pictures, but other content is brilliant, and the Air Power analysis section on China is not just a re-hash of the section in their World Air Forces Encyclopedia from last year but an updated and expanded article.

The focus aircraft article is on the JSF and its fairly comprehensive going through the entire history up to the current status (at time of writing anyway, which I think was earlier this year) It does cover the hover-pit testing but not the actuall STOVL test flights, so I think we can assume it went to print before April. The article also has a picture of the actuall X-35 demonstrator’s cockpit, interesting, never seen it before.
The article is written by Bill Sweetman, who also wrote the only book published on the JSF so far, so one can’t be too surprised by that I guess.

Overall Very good, well worth the $20 USD per volume for the case bound edition.

Regards, Glenn.
