International cricket

Channel 4 have been showing the latest match between the quite superb Indian side and the less than inspirational English one.  The quality of the pitch at the brand new Modi Stadium came in for some stick but, it was the same for both sides.

This game, won by India – deservedly so – was a low run scoring game dominated by the spin bowling from both sides with even Joe Root taking five for a handful !  What was for me a total surprise was the inability of the batsmen from both sides but primarily from England who were unable to deal with the turning ball whether off spin or leg spin.

The simple expedient, drummed into me from school days was always to use your feet to get to the pitch of the ball when dealing with spin bowling.  Did not see to much of that in this game.
