You know I get really fed up with cold calls and scams now I cant wait for someone to call me going to have some fun. :D:D:D:D

Also remember the ‘reverse’ phone scam that you sprung on a poor unsuspecting autotrader canvasser – he nearly ended up buying my Range Rover!:D

Stringing these peons along for a while is fun if you have the time for them, but if you haven’t simply don’t answer any ‘withheld’, ‘out of area’, or ‘private’, ‘number unknown’ phone calls.
You will be surprised how much less the phone rings after a while of this!

And yet, despite all the warnings, all the information and all the publicity, people still fall for scams – of whatever nature. I wonder why……..

Tell them you run linux or are on a Mac or even Windows NT and make up some technical rubbish to confuse them, put them on hold or something to run up their phone bills (as already suggested). It’s what I’d do if I ever got the call.

It’s a bit like those who knock on the door and start with ‘I’m not trying to sell anything…’ Total liars, quickest way to get rid of them is to say the place is rented and all utilities are the responsibility of the landlord/letting agency. Soon give up. If I want to change my mortgage/windows/phone/electric I will do it on my terms when it suits me.

Let me guess…..

They asked you to open event viewer and asked could you see anything with a red circle and a white cross through it? Means nothing in real terms on your average home PC, but they tell you it is a virus and they need to connect to wipe it.

I had it a few weeks ago with the person claiming they had been sent my details by my internet provider. Given I work in IT and was a bit bored I thought I would have some fun 😀

After 15 minutes of going nowhere (“just let me try that, I wil be right back” whilst putting the washing on then going to make lunch and cuppa 🙂 ) he was getting very angry with me (mission accomplished!! :D) so I asked him who my internet provider was? After a few seconds pause he hung up 😀

So he got nothing from me other than a bill for a 15 minute international call. I cant stop them calling but I can at least hurt them in the pocket!

Never, ever talk to anyone who cold calls on the phone. Its always a scam of one form or another.

Just had a similar phonecall but they were asking for my father. I’m just glad I’m here as my parents aren’t tech savvy and my mother would probably buckle under pressure. Thanks for the heads up!
