Interoperability between Swedish TARAS datalink and US/NATO Link-16?

Is TARAS just a Swedish derivative of US/NATO Link-16 that depends on US-provided encryption algorithms or a unique Swedish datalink complete with an independent encryption algorithm but also fully compatible with US/NATO Link-16?
