Is just me ? But when I find myself reading any British publication dealing with aviation if they find themselves discussing either in Article form or editorials the Royal Navy’s Carrier current or building .They tend to be rather negative. It almost seems like an extension of the RAF Vs RN battles that have gone on for years now.
On the other hand when discussing American carrier aviation they tend toward what might described as an orgasm in paragraph form.
I ‘m just curious if I’m the only one who’s noticed this?

I’ve been a reader of Warship IFR for years and tend to agree with you that as of late they’ve be going over the top a bit. (Actually some them need their shots)
On the other hand the number of air force types I’ve observed, some of them fairly senior and By this I mean USAF ,RAF and CDN. Air force .
And this may just be purely luck of the draw but an awful lot seem to be to use that quaint British phrase absolute ******s.I some times wonder if it’s some effect of light blue dyes or something.
I have also met some truly brilliant AF types as well they just seem to be in minority . Airpower is not a panacea (and according to my spell check programme it’s also not a word.)it is just one facet of military affairs .You can not win a war purely by air power . I heard so much about how Airpower(tm.) was going to solve all the problems in the Balkans by instituting a No- Fly zone. I t didn’t But I saw a lot people wrap their hopes up in that one.
I really do have to pick up the latest issue!!
This beginning to ramble so that tells me it’s probably time for bed.

In general the Aerospace magazines are fairly moderate and even handed. AFM did a couple of issues last year with a public Q&A about the UK need for carrier along with a rather partisan article by a well known Typhoon supporter but in general carrier aviation does get reasonable coverage.
If you want to see proper intervice rivalry and VERY partisan reporting try “Warship IFR” http://www.warshipsifr.com/ most of their reporting consists of polemics from different people about the death of the Royal Navy rather then reports or technical information about actual warships! They are utterly against land based airpower and the editorial from Odin is rabidly anti RAF usually consisting of talk about how the RAF should be cut out of any future defence discussions and disbanded! Then if you add in the paranoia about every other nation that has any kind of naval power, for example the latest issue has a two page report about the possible strategic naval threat of Brazil to the UK! – (YES REALLY!) Further looking at the latest issue they have 16 pages of articles, polemics and editorial about the SDSR, death of the navy and general attacks on the other two services (especially the RAF) yet only 3 pages about actual in service vessels. Of those three pages two are taken up with a report about a small unarmed 45ft (unless you count shotguns and rifles) utility boat.
I like reading magazines but these day I like to filter the information through forums like this one.
