This month’s Loop carries an interview with Richard Grace, son of Nick and Carolyn, who at the age of 22 runs two Cassutt Racers and is understandably relunctant to fly the family heirloom 😉
Just thought the Historic/GA crowd here might be interested 😎

I can give him a list of things and people I’d like him to shoot down, what a great attitude to have though, “I’m not going to fly it because people expect me to, I’m going to fly it when I’m confident I can do it correctly and safley.”
Top bloke for having that attitude.

Spitfire police attacked me.
Here is a quote from the article:
Q| Will you display it (Spitfire ML407) in the future?
A| Eventually. My theory is that I don’t mind not flying it at the moment as I might not necessarily be able to do anything productive with it. I’d rather get to the stage where I can use it for what it’s meant for. And be confident that I’m doing it well.
So there we have it, Richard Grace is will go and shoot down enemy aircraft as soon as he gets to fly the Spitfire. Who’d have thought it!
😮 🙂

Title changed 😉
I was going to ask if he could keep up with the Spit! Some websites claim the Cassutt has a performance of about 170 knots burning 6gph from 100hp so it is no slow-coach 😮
I wonder if the Rotax option has been considered? Lighter engine for a start.

Good article, thanks for the link. I must admit I did panic at first though, as Damien said a name in the title usually brings bad news.
I’ve met Richard quite a few times now, he’s a good guy.
Here’s a photo of when he arrived at Leicester a few weeks ago, he still has to bring his mum with him though 😀
And although you can’t see, his sister is in the back of the Spitfire.

My what a good idea, I really liked the article and the look of the magazine. I’ll go and cancel my subscription to Today’s Pilot and subscribe to this free alternative first thing on Monday.
How nice of our new moderator to point us in the direction of this excellent magazine at the expense of the people who fund this forum.

Had a chat with him 6 weeks ago at Lasham. He’s a very nice guy, very level headed. The cassutts are beautiful.
