Searching for any reference to aviation but without success, so far……….;)
Grey Area
Given that the General Discussion forum is dedicated to the discussion of non-aviation topics, this is hardly surprising.

Welcome to the forum! 🙂
yes the undercarriage didn’t lock on the right and it had a mishap.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWSvKT6h3ronot much on the sound of it tho unfortunately.
That replica (G-BRDV) is now a static/travelling exhibit for Solent Sky.
The aircraft was repaired after the landing mishap and did fly again, but another incident (and the, frankly, mad decision to built the aircraft as a one-piece job!) put paid to any flying career it might have had….
As an interesting aside, most full-scale Spitfire replicas these days have been fitted with Allison engines….! :diablo:

😀
Talking of Jag V12’s didn’t Clive Du Croix fit and fly one, coupled to a custom made reduction gearbox, in his replica Spitfire prototype a few years back? Sadly never actually got to hear or see it in action, but i’m sure the ‘Jag’ would of made a glorious sound in that setup!

I was standing at the bus stop last week when a young chap started telling me about how his mate had put a Ducati engine into a Mini.
Since I’m an old dear without the slightest interest in either cars or engines,I had to struggle to make intelligent comments until the bus arrived, naturally ten minutes late.
Should I have been impressed ?

I love the growl of the merlin, particularly when it is in a Spitty doing a fly past, a rare experience these days. I saw this one in South Africa years ago: Fly Africa
By: D.Healey - 16th October 2010 at 12:15
there have been a few cars converted with merlins and meteors. they look an absolute abortion, and the one that featured on tv ”the beast” sounds like its dropped a big end.
the problem is, non of those who fit these things to cars will ever bring the motors on song..i’m pretty sure i’d have a go. they might as well fit the mighty V12 Jag engine in and have seperate headers. it will not sound the same but it sure will sound nice.

I heard of a guy who put one of those engines into a Rolls Royce motorcar, must have been awesome!
By: D.Healey - 16th October 2010 at 11:27
yes it is but sadly its now a display piece, all merlins should be used for something. there should be more people building replica spits and use merlin engines 😉

Isn’t this a beauty? 😀
