Inventors or discoverers who regretted what they did

When Sir Ernest Rutherford first split the atom he soon came to realise the power he’d unleashed on the world and began to regret it, becoming something of a campaigner against nuclear technology later in life.

I ahve just read too that Walter H. Brattain, who invented the transistor, later apologised to the world and expressed his great regret, because it had enabled electric guitars, synthesisers, power amplifiers and all sorts of loud music. Personally, I don’t hold it against him.

I wondered if there were other inventors or discoverers who went on leter to publically regret their work and what it had been used for. Any ideas?

Do you mind, my missus’s cousin Jo was in S-Club and at least she can sing, actually so can my missus, unlike most of the Spice Girls.

But was she chosen for her singing abilities, her ability to play a musical instrument, or for another more sexist reason? – Nermal

Simon Fuller… who also regretted it all the way to the bank before repeating the experience with S Club 7.

One would like to think the nasty little man who invented marriage, died a horrible death after years of regret and remorse

Ha ha!

Hope you like this then –

A woman awakes during the night to find that her husband is not in their
bed.
She puts on her robe and goes downstairs to look for him.
She finds him sitting at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee in front of
him.
He appears deep in thought, just staring at the wall.
She watches as he wipes a tear from his eye and takes a sip of coffee.
“What’s the matter dear?” she whispers as she steps into the room, “Why are
you down here at this time of night?”
Do you remember when I met you and you were only 16?” he asks solemnly.
The wife is touched to tears thinking that her husband is so caring and
sensitive.
“Yes, I do” she replies.
The husband pauses. The words are not coming easily.
“Do you remember when your father caught us in the back seat of my car,
making love?”
“Yes, I remember” says the wife, lowering herself into a chair beside him.
The husband continues… “Do you remember when he shoved a shotgun in my face and said, “Either you marry my daughter, or I will send you to jail for
20 years?'”

“I remember that too” she replies softly.

He wipes another tear from his cheek and says… “I would have got out
today.”

On the same theme, I have a list of reverse inventions

And the date for the top of the list…. October 24th 2003, the day aviation took a backward leap!

Oppenheimer and “The Bomb” springs to mind.

On the explosion of the first ‘device’ he was quoted as saying: “I am become death” IIRC

On the same theme, I have a list of reverse inventions – irems that replace a perfectly good version with something worse. Top at the moment is the plastic knife and fork, and the flat roof from the 70s.

[QUOTE]The man who invented cigarettes should be put up against a firing squad

Do you mean the commercial cigs or people such as native American Indians who rooled up tobacco leaves, lit them, smoked them and thus invented the first “cigars”??

Thomas Midgley, a guy from Ohio, world would have been a safer place without him, for everybody!

He discovered tetrealthyl lead, used in fuel, and then this stuff was incooperated in everything from cans to waterstorage tanks 🙁

The fecker knew it was dangerous, but still supported the large lobby to keep lead in all those products…

But thats not all, to improve fridges our dear friend Midgley invented chlorofluorcarbons, CFC, that lovely stuff getting rid of the ozone layer. It just took us 50 years to realise this….

Dont know if he regretted all this, but he should
