Here some news directly from the ACIG.org redaction!
It appears that in June or July this year Iran has – after all – ordered 24 new-built MiG-29s.
The exact version and all other details remain unknown, but we learned now that this was one of the reasons for the large “delegation” of Iranian technical personnel (80) and a considerable number of pilots spending quite some time at Kubinka, this summer. The pilots were there for some weapons exercises and have fired quite a number of live rounds, as well as training new tactical methods, while the technicians were introduced to the new version of the MiG-29.
We learned also some details about the Russian MiG-31 offer: the RuAF has 22 used MiG-31s with a five-years spare parts package on general offer: i.e. it was not only offering these to Iran. The Russians are (still) looking for somebody who would buy these aircraft and the spare parts package at something like $470 million, and it was suggested to us that there were several bidders, including the US DoD.
