Iran plane crash today.

Why did the BBC mention sanctions? Maybe it was struck by a meteorite or ingested a foreign object….so we shall have to wait until the full report comes out. I don’t see anything wrong with Michael’s post????

Unless there is an issue with the assembly and that is a proven fact, this sort of thing should not be said.

Basically it’s being suggested that the country of assembly may mave been a cause of any, as yet, unknown problems

Best stick to know facts and not put down countries just because they are not “one of ours”.

The reason for mentioning that the aircraft was assembled in Iran is that this is a FACT as opposed to other aircraft of this type which were manufactured in the Ukraine. If you wish to read between the lines and discover some unintended slur on a country that is not ‘one of ours’, whatever that means, no-one can stop your irrelevant interpretation. I have a lot of respect for the Iranian people, so your insinuation is baseless.

The BBC article says
“Iran is still flying planes bought before the Islamic Revolution in 1979. International trade sanctions were imposed after the hostage crisis which followed, during which 52 Americans were held captive in Tehran for 444 days.”

I’d question why they put that statement, which is accurate, where they did in the story….fairly high up where facts usually go instead of towards the end where lesser details are placed.
That statement, along with not bothering to mention that the aircraft is not a western type subject to any sanctions, gives readers an incorrect impression.

Sloppy journalism or a clumsy attempt at pro-Iranian propaganda?

What is the reason for mentioning it’s Iranian assembleb inj the context of engine failure and possible maintenance issue?

All crashes could be intialy described as possible maintence issues.

Iranian assembled plane, one engine failed, possible maintenance issues. Would be difficult to blame the sanctions as the engines are Klimov YV-3’s.

Although the BBC report mentions the problem regarding old equipment badly maintained, this plane was relatively new. (2008)
