RE> Maybe someone remember about the A-300 ‘Airbus’ incident, when the US intel had issued a warning before about the new AG or anti-shipping capability of IRIAF F-14As!!!!
ANS> If I remember correctly that warning concerned a report that the IRAF had modified the F-14s to launch the Maverick missile.

Not very logic, because Iran did operate the Mavericks for over a decade with F-4s at all. It seems, that your military do not have a high opinion about the military knowledge of your press.

A thread turned into Bush bashing by Flex, what a surprise
Heu just can not help him self, he starts spewing his hate at every oppotunity. 😡

None will be surprised to learn, that the Iran bought foreign expertise (Russian mainly) to built-up some “independent” aviation industry capabilities. That every prototype will be shown with national pride to the own public at first. If that claims are justified is another question, but we have to note that the Iran makes some progress in the national way.

Well flex, you’ll be told that you don’t have the sense of humor, just like I’ve been when I tried to bring the discussion back on topic.
For those interested, there is an Iranian advanced trainer/light fighter project called Shafaqh, somewhat similar in shape with the F-18, but much smaller, in the same class as Iak-130, M346 and L-15. A prototype or at least a functional mock-up has been shown some time ago.
Well, at least it looks modern……………..yet I don’t believe any have flown? Now a design like could have some promise? As a advance trainer and light strike aircraft. Of course Iran still needs a large power Air Superiority Fighter with the Flanker being the only real choice………..

After reading this thread I have to say that Bush’s newest media propaganda aimed against Iran was effective enough to achieve that no serious discussion about anything related to Iran cannot be lead on this forum anymore.. There are still enough idiots in the States who swallow up brainlessly what is given to them.. Unfortunately..
Well… Life goes on…

You’ll have to wait until the Iranian government works on their Photoshop skills a little more. :diablo:
Now that’s believable…………….

I would love to see Iran’s F/A-18 type fighter! Can I see some Pics and what info is available???

I don’t have any info on that. That’s why I first linked to the thread instead of quoting it, I was only referring you to someone else’s information.
Well, its hard to comment without more information? From what I’ve seen and heard the twin tailed F-5 is what Iran consider there F/A-18 type fighter…….which is surely not a F/A-18 type aircraft!

Hm? You shouldn’t have got an image when clicking that post, it just links to post #131 in the other thread. Anyway I’ll just quote the text.
I’m not trying to argue for or against the Iranian aerospace industry, I just don’t think this press release is something you should take so negatively. 🙂

Iran unveils new fighter jet TEHRAN, Sept 7 (AFP) Iran announced on Thursday it has developed a new war plane — named the “Azarakhsh” (Lightning) — which it describes as similar to the American F-5. On Wednesday, Iran had announced the development of a war plane named “Saegheh” (Thunder), which it described as similar to the American F-18 fighter jet. (Posted @ 17:38 PST)

Did you check the link to the other thread? The release describes the fighter we’ve seen pictures of as similar to the F-5, not an F-18 type plane.
Not trying to be argumentative (really) but I think it’s just much fuss about nothing much at all.
I don’t see anything with the link you provided? I only see the twin tailed F-5 so were is the F/A-18 typed fighter????
By: Emgy - 9th September 2006 at 22:47
Iran is the one that said it was a F/A-18 type fighter not the US or the West. So, they can spin it anyway they want………regardless its just a reworded F-5…………..

The whole “it’s a F-18” seems to be just internet rumours (and we know what they’re worth) and at best it’s just some guy writing a press release. (And we know what those are worth too.) In my opinion you may be blowing this out of proportion and making it more important than it is when you’re equating whoever is responsible for the press release with Iran. 🙂
Anyway check this thread in the mother forum, it has an AFP press release which says the F-18 thing refers another fighter while the jet we’ve seen pictures of is “similar to an F-5”. The release doesn’t say any of the planes are supposed to be as advanced as an F-18.

The Iran ran project “Sky Hawk” and succeeded with that in the 90s. The modified and reworked F-14s can carry three AIM-23C Sejil (I-HAWK) or a similar number of the AGM variant ‘Yasser’. Of around 60 F-14A still at hand >25 are in service!
Despite what the Iran claims, it shows that the US intel had not improved much from the desaster of the late 70s. At least US aircrafts delivered are still flying and and do fullfill some usefull missions. It shows that Iran was/is capable to utilise and expand the infrastruture delivered by the USA. That the Iran is still capable to buy some missing parts or related tools and machinery from the USA!
PS
The diameter of AGM-54 and I-HAWK are 0,38 m and 0,36 m, when the span is 0,93 m and 1,2 m. The length is ~4 m versus ~5,1 m and demands a special adapter, when such a missile has to be carried on the central station.
Maybe someone remember about the A-300 ‘Airbus’ incident, when the US intel had issued a warning before about the new AG or anti-shipping capability of IRIAF F-14As!!!!

Has nothing to do with “bashing”! Really, a redesigned and/or copy of a 60’s era fighter is of very little use. While Iran “may” get a new plane its still 60’s tech regardless. Further, the criticism is Iran’s own fault with statements like its an F/A-18 type fighter or how advance it is! Now if it went down a similar path ot the F-20 with maybe the best Russian engines, radar, and avoinic. Then would it offer some worth while capability……………………
