Hi,
During my research into the Iraqi Nisr (Audax) I was led to believe that the aircraft were aluminium overall. But as we can see at some point the aircraft were camouflaged, possibly dark earth/light earth over aluminium.
Under the fuselage insignia there is the legend ‘RIAF 55’. Obviously it stands for Royal Iraqi Air Force and the Arabic number is 55. As to when they were camouflaged, I have no idea.
A number of Nisr’s were lost during the Iraqi Revolt of 1941. The remainder soldiered on until the late 40’s early 50’s. It could be possible that they were camouflaged after the Revolt.
If anyone can shed some light onto when the Nisr’s were camouflaged I would be grateful for any details.
Also does anyone know if the Iraqi Gladiators ever received a camouflage scheme?
I don’t know the origin of the scan, it was sent to me some time ago.
