How do stealthy aircraft protect themselves against IRST?
I read the F-22 is coated with a paint that “absorbs lasers” which is supposed to make it impossible to use a laser rangefinder against it. An IRST depends on a laser range finder to know the exact position of an enemy aircraft. Without it it cannot guide a missile to the target.
What is the maximum range of an IRST? Is the F-22’s stealthiness useless if you can get to within that range of it? What other stealth techniques does the F-22 use that would protect it from IRST?
Also, all modern fighters have IRST, right?
