Hi,
Having seen the link to the Airliners.net forum that RIPconcorde posted on another thread, I’m thinking of paying $5 a month to use their forum, too.
But is it worth it?
Are any of you members paying to use the service? If so, do you feel you are getting value for money?
If you ask me, it seems one big rip-off, since all Airliners.net try to do is make money – out of their forum, advertising and even selling photographs (taking 50% of the profits!).

For any of you that haven’t read it, heres a link to that Russian report. Alot of reading, and takes a long time for the pictures to load on my crappy dial up connection, but boy is it worth it!

Also, can anyone tell me if its just me that cant view the pictures anymore? They were fantastic.

I agree with you on that. I find myself posting less there these days but am constantly drawn to the excellent trip reports. Some of them are described in such detail that you could alomost be there! 🙂 Go check them out just now if you haven’t already.

I wouldn’t pay to use airliners.net, no way, but one thing I do find excellent on their website (Apart from the pictures) are some of the trip reports are amazing. In partciular, there was a report of domestic flights in Russia on there recently which was simply superb. I look out for new trip reports on there every day.

A.net’s forum used to be free. I considered joining then, but thought ‘why?’ when I come in here and discuss aviation. They started charging about a year or so, ago.

You’re all forgetting on thing
The stuff thats posted on A.net is usualy utter drivel and has no fact. I wouldn’t be prepared to pay even one penny for that crap

So do I MEA.
I think a.net should become free.
a.net must be getting a lot of money out of it, after all how much does it cost to keep a forum open? I can’t imagine it’s much.
I did think about joining but when I discovered that there were other forums which were free I didn’t bother.

I surf the a.net forum for news and I like to read the trip reports, but this forum is better.

The one off fee is about £10 or £15 I think.

Yeah so? Most of the topics in here surround non-U.S. airlines, but that doesn’t stop me from coming in here. A lot of Americans can take on this same attitude, albeit towards non-U.S. carriers. I definitely do not take on this attitude because I enjoy discussing commercial aviation at large, and not just about U.S. based airlines. I actually surf the a.net forum on occassion, because they have some really good topics in there. As much as I would like to respond sometimes, I cannot because I refuse to pay to use a forum. One thing that does go on in there that I disapprove of, is arguing. It gets really heated sometimes. Just out of curiosity, how much is that one off fee associated with premium membership?

Whilst there are the odd helpful people on there the vast majority of stuff on there is repetitive rubbish. You are unlikely to find anything on there that you need contribute to (As you can read them for free) that you can’t find on here, or dare I say it on pprune.

You don’t have to pay monthly, you can pay a one off payment for a ‘Premium’ membership which is what I did. Plus, just now with the week dollar it’ll work out cheaper than normal as they go by current exchange rates when converting.
There are some very knowledgeable people on the forums who can turn out to be very helpful at times. 🙂

The forum has a very boring, dark layout. The forum is also so busy you can hardly post any news; and I don’t find the threads very interesting because it’s a lot about airlines in the USA. I wouldn’t do it, but it’s up to you depending on what you want.
