Is anyone interested in Poetry?

Yes I dabble in this as well, I wrote a very strong poem the other night and the metaphorical imagery is still lingering in my heard, I’d like to share it with everyone here but only if you want to hear it!

RE: Here is another one, very different!

This one I wrote when I was still in school :/ I had a competition with my girlfriends sister(Later to become my sister-in-law and then not 🙂 ). The judges were our English teachers at our respective schools which we took a copy of both and got them to look over them. My english teacher, unbeknownest to me, had lived is South Africa for a time and sent it over there for certain people to look at, but that’s another story! See what you think…

Cry Freedom

I sit and wonder,
Why the world is the way it is.
Racial discrimination,
And people getting in a tizz.
For we are all one,
In God’s eye,
We live our life,
But then we must die.

You “young folk”,
Go out and play,
Laugh and learn,
Having fun this way.
But when we get older,
We loose our appreciation,
And learn a new word,
Called discrimination.

For the Moon speaks,
Of black and white,
On a cold and frosty,
Half-Moon night.
People of South Africa,
My friends,
The time will come,
When apartheid ends.
This I promise,
And will soon deliver,
And to you the cold hearted,
We’ll make you shiver!

RE: Here it is

Wow, no comments, did I scare everyone away now?
I have others, but this one was inspired by a little personal problem. I’ll post others tomorrow as I will have the internet back on at home tomorrow 😀

Here it is

It’s called “The Other Guy”

The Other Guy!

One small slice,
Across your chest.
See the blood,
Run down your breast
It won’t belong,
Before I lay thee to rest.

You gasp in horror,
As I smote.
The next incision,
Will be your throat.
I laugh aloud,
At your death I gloat.

I always wondered,
What you’d look like in red.
I say to you,
When you’re dead.
Your last screams,
Buzzing in my head.

On flights of angels,
May you fly.
What a horrid,
Way to die.
Now you know how I feel,
When you’re with,
THE OTHER GUY!

RE: Is anyone interested in Poetry?

Dulce est decorum pro patria mori

It is sweet and honourable to die for your country

…or something like that!!

I’m not a great poetry lover, but sometimes I get captivated by it. Tyger, Tyger sticks in my mind.

RE: Is anyone interested in Poetry?

as i’ve said we’ve praoble been given the wrong sort. the english poets we had were crap but one about race changes in south africa was the most intresting for me (mind you i go my lowest grade in that subject).

in history siegfiried sasson came up a lot but it wasn’t the greatest IMHO.

i wait in anticpation for something that appeals to my taste, or maybee poetry isn’t for me?

RE: Is anyone interested in Poetry?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 17-06-02 AT 10:46 AM (GMT)]Rabie,

I was like that at your age, I think many of us are. But at the age of 41 I now love poetry. As for there being no decent poems perhaps your teachers are showing you the wrong stuff. Have you not read any of the Great War poets? I challenge you to read, and consider, Dulce et Decorum est, and Anthem for doomed youth and not be moved. I’m currently trying to find out a little about a Walsall poet, 2nd Lt. Harold Parry who was killed in the Great War.

Ja,

go for it. Poetry can indeed invoke strong imagery and often leaves an ‘aftertaste?’ in the mind. Some words, when heard once can never be forgotten. So, yes, this is the general discussion forum so let anybody have a go that wants. I’ll even start you off. A friend of mine did some stunning artwork of Sqdn. Ldr. Brian Lane and he asked me to come up with some words to go with it. This is the last verse.

‘No neat white stone near a country church
For those who rest with no known grave,
Their names inscribed at Runnymede…
The bravest of the brave.’

Regards,

Ja,

Are you kidding? I love it, have written quite a bit myself in the past. Had a lot of inspiration in Japan too.

Would like to hear some.

Regards, Glenn.

(p.s. See you and the others in a week, I am off to NZ from tommorrow!)

RE: Is anyone interested in Poetry?

When music can be discussed here, so can poetry as song lerics are poetry with music behind it.
