I’m dreading my daughter getting to that age – I know/hope she’ll not get in this sort of position but who knows what the future will hold.

… (go into a redneck pub and sing a song about the holocaust)
Actually, the song wasn’t about the holocaust. It was a song about the problems in Kazakstan: transport and Jews.
For those who don’t know what Ben and me are talking about: the lyrics and a video are up next. Be careful though, the song is rather catchy and you’ll be singing it before you know it. The joke could well be lost on some people…
Lyrics – In my country there is problem
In my country there is problem, And that problem is transport. It take very very long, Because Kazakhstan is big.
Throw transport down the well (repeat line) So my country can be free (repeat line) We must make travel easy (repeat line) Then we’ll have a big party (repeat line)
In my country there is problem And that problem is the Jew They take everybody money And they never give it back
Throw the jew down the well (repeat line) So my country can be free (repeat line) You must grab him by his horns (repeat line) Then we have a big party (repeat line)
If you see the Jew coming You must be carefull of his teeth You must grab him by his money And I tell you what to do

Sacha Baron Cohen was brillaint as Ali G, in the beginning but the gag ran it’s course and he is seldon seen on Uk tv these days.
He was poking fun at a subculture (mainly from around the towns of Swindon, Reading and Maidenhead)Shame because I preferred his Borat character, the inept reporter from Kazakhstan.
Chavs though are taking over 😡
What makes Borat brilliant is that he’s always making fun of the Jews (go into a redneck pub and sing a song about the holocaust) while Sacha himself is Jewish.

None of this went on when there was corporal punishment in schools?
Don’t make me laugh!
I can remember those days, and you can’t…. and you’re wrong Comet. It went on then, too.
I know this from firsthand experience of going to a school where corporal punishment was frequently applied for even the most trivial offences, whereas you only have your prejudices and misguided beliefs to fall back on.
What was different about those days was the lack of mass-media to glamourise such activity and make it fashionable and attractive to the dull-witted or, on the other hand, to whip up fear, loathing and hysteria among the timorous and vengeful.
I too grew up in these days, and was subjected to the belt on numerous occasions. I got it for talking in class, being late, for various other minor indiscretions and at one point had my head bashed off a blackboard.
Did it teach me anything? Nope. Did it change my behaviour? No. The thugs and bullies were around then, and corporal punishment made no difference to them. Some even seemed to take a macho delight in taking the whack.
I dont know what the answer is to all this. As a parent I’ve been firm but fair with my own kids, and find that reasonable discussion with them brings better results than any other approach.
I do despair at the ease with which kids can get access to material they should not be able to see, and its not an easy task preventing this.
Television, the internet, mobile phones with internet access, other kids of course, all carry the risk of this sort of access, and you cant just separate them from it, only hope that you can educate them to the risks as best you can. Not as easy as it was in my younger years when there was one telly with 3 channels, parentally controlled.

LOL, we call them johnny’s, though that’s more of a 1980’s term. There are also “gabbers” which is way too yiddish 😀
Ali G rocks though

Any of the defintions on the dictionary link below sound familiar Ben ?
If you are lucky enough to have escaped from this delightful element of youth culture in Belgium you can glady have all of our chavs.
Urban Scum just about sums it up.
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=chav&r=f
An entertaining website devoted to their inane stupidity can be found below.
Unfortunately they (Chavs) think it is actually condoning their behavior.

Q: What do you call an Eskimo chav ?
A: An Innuinnit
Q: Why are chavs like slinkies ?
A: They both have no real use but it’s great to watch either fall down a flight of stairs.

Ye, man.
Oi Ash, bling bling in ya face!
This is pretty much the attitude of wiggers and chavs in UK: Drugs, Girls, Motors, Bling, Burberry.
That’s it, huh? What a sad life they must have, the scrubbers.
Oh, and when we say anything to them they’re all like.. “Am gonna get in me Focus, yeah, and am gonna call ma boyz up from da Eastside yeah? You jus watch, matey..”
Bloody scary.

agree with you there.. am I the only one who shouts at the TV ‘its DID’ when the latest ‘celebrity thickie’ is being interviewed and insists on telling everyone that they ‘done’ this or that.. sounds pathetic I know but to me its just an example of the ‘its cool to be a moron’ culture.. the other thing that gets my goat is kids talking with this affected west-indian type patois accent ‘coz it makes me look lika gangsta innit’.. Neil

Before all this woolly-minded do-gooding started, when there was corporal punishment in schools, kids did not cheek teachers, kids did not attack teachers, kids did not run riot and out of control.
None of this went on when there was corporal punishment in schools?

jbritchford………you sure got my vote on all you have suggested.
I also go along with what they do in the US, where life means life…ie you never get out, what is the point of giving someone life, which means 25 years and then letting them out after 12? I like the way they do long term sentances in the US….like you kill a family of 5, you get 5 life sentances, and get given a term of 99 years……….that’s more like it.
And while they are in there, whats with this one to a cell and an en-suite bathroom? that’s crap, its worth commiting a crime and hoping you go down just to get a luxury cell and three meals a day!
One other thing that needs changing is drink driving, at present if you kill someone while drunk at the wheel, its classed as death by dangerous driving, surely that should be manslaughter (if they can’t make it murder!), and something more than 18 months should be given.
