Is the lady on the grass ?

It looks very much as though they have cut a triangular shape into the grass which has been concreted to support the starboard undercarriage leg of the aircraft. Looking at the ‘conga’ line of aircraft on RWY 23 the last but one (777?) overhangs the runway by a considerable margin on both sides neccessitating Concorde having to move that bit onto the grass to give enough room for safe passage.

When we taxied past it in a LH 737-300 (LH4740) D-ABEC from FRA on April the 17th the pilot pointed it out for us and said he would go a tiny bit slower for us to see it. We taxied a bit slower for a few seconds but then he speeded up and we continued to taxi to our gate in T2.

We taxiied right past it in March and I was sure they had extended the tar-mac slightly. I don’t think it’s trick photography or anything like, it certainly appears to have run over into the grass.

No, I think it’s just a trick of perspective and the “foreshortening” that often occurs with large telephoto lenses.

Mmmm thats odd. Certainly looks to be on the grass, unless there is just an extra piece of paving and its a temporary parking spot.
Seems to be some rubble or oil or something on the tarmac just behind it.
Maybe its tried to do a u-turn from that queue.

No, I think she’s just (and only just) on the taxiway. The Concorde undercarriage does have quite a narrow “footprint”.

There are so many aircraft on the ground in that pic, I thought it was from 9/11!
Back on topic I don’t think she is on the grass, very close, but if she was she would sink would she not?
