Is the Scrambles Cafe at Biggin Still standing?

I heard sometime ago that there was a plan to pull it down and build a hotel in its place, This will be a crying shame as it is very much part of Biggin Hill’s history.
I have not been through Biggin in a while so just wondered if its still standing, If it is what can we do to keep it there?.

It always for me had a good atmosphere and was a great place to watch the Arrivals on a friday in recent times when Biggin Hill became unable to let the public in due to insurance hikes, Not sure where i will watch arrivals this year.

I recall that the cafe was a parachute packing store during it’s wartime life. I gleaned this bit of info from many a visit there, before and after flying with a friend out of Biggin from Cabair next door.
Sad to have heard it is now gone:( I wonder where all the pictures and memorabelia has gone?

Scrambles had gone downhill in recent years, (since the previous owner sold it) the food was awful and the place filthy, basically it went a bit chavvy. It was a shame to pull the building down as it was used during the war, although I don’t know what for. The previous owner has opened a new cafe further into Biggin Hill, it’s called The Spitfire, the food is good but the tea tastes just the same as it always did – bloody awful.

There is still a very rare original wooden dispersal hut on the airfield from the Battle of Britain, but it’s so knackered, it’s now unsafe to enter. I have some photos of it. What a piece of history, very eerie to look through the windows an imagine what went on.

Things like this should be saved as there are few left.

Too true! It is also a disgrace that the listed buildings in the West Camp are slowly deteriorating because the present owner doesn’t seem to do any maintenance on them. The Fighter Pens on the east side of the airfield could also do with some attention as well as the wooden sheds hidden in the undergrowth over that side.

It has been demolished already unfortunately 🙁

I think the plan is to build a hangar on the site actually, for servicing business jets. The hotel would go up by the Control Tower.
