Is This A New Production On THE GREAT ESCAPE ?

Thursday is of course the anniversary of the breakout of Stalag Luft III on March 24th 1944 and I saw this posted on Facebook about a program airing in the UK on Thursday! Is this a new production or an order program if anyone knows ! Being a long time collector of any video program on the escape I do hope we see this production run here in the US ! I am sure as I do each year that when I search the various media outlets ..except for those in the UK. One could not find one written word or story about the events of March 24th ! Of course we still see the major 1963 film run on the various cable networks ! Hope some of you will see the program and give us a review…. now to make old BlueNoser352 happy….sure hope a good FlyPaster out there could record the program and just drop it on YouTube for those WW II starved history folks here in the colonies to see and enjoy !!! Our version of The History Channel rarely runs programs on WW II anymore ..as they did when they first came on ones cable or satellite system !

But its of course more important to stop and remember as I always do the men who lost their lives in this escape …long may their memory last !

A salute to the 50 from BlueNoser352 !!!!

Perhaps the film is a copy of 101 Dalmatians. ………..! Mind you as we sit under the exit of the Lichfield corridor in Cannock, she the Grandaughter did point up to an Aircraft going east along it tonight in the dak, bit odd as was airliner size and I don’t think it was in a stack for BHX. She, the Grandaughter wasn’t much use as she couldn’t tell me what it was. Pahhh kids today she even likes Frozen…..noooooooooooooo not any more I can’t take…..sorry thread drift

Intended audience, me? Ha.
BUT my three year old daughter found it “stupid, Daddy”, so I speak with some authority…;o)

Snafu – you are not exactly the target market for the film.

Now as to whether the granddaughter of Rob68 comes to the same conclusion – maybe you could compare notes with her!!

My grandaughter is 2 1/2, unsurprisingly I’m subjected to a lot of Disney including 101 Dalmatians…

Thank your lucky stars it isn’t 102 Dalmatians – utter drivel.

Rob68….
Your suspicion is misplaced.
The Disney cartoon came out in 1961….The Great Escape was released in 1963. 😉

This is a repeat of a programme first transmitted three or four years ago.

It is well worth a watch for those who haven’t seen it before.

It was largely the brainchild of Dr Howard Tuck who ‘fed’ the idea to me. I was then able to pitch the concept to Wildfire TV with whom I’d worked on Time Team projects and Who Downed Douglas Bader. Detailed discussions and negotiations then followed involving Polish authorities, conflict archaeologists, engineers etc. The result was this programme.

Hope that provides a little background, BlueNoser?

If Charles Rollings is involved then it will be worth looking at. He has spent a couple of decades of deep research to uncover the reality of the story behind the myths.
