Is this a trim wheel?

Picked this up at the weekend. Looks to me like an aircraft trim wheel, possibly from a between-the-wars type.

Not much in the way of numbers on it except 640 6 and there appears to be an inspector’s stamp on the back though it is mostly obscured by the sprocket fitting mounted over it. It is 6 inches in diameter.

Ideas anyone?

TIA, Anon.

Looks like a trim wheel out of a Yak, but it’s not.

Short stirling Flt Engineer position? ???

Don’t think so Peter, IIRC the F/E Control Wheels drove Teleflex controls

The P-38 elevator trim wheel is a similar size. Although this is not from a P-38.

From a very tiny aircraft piloted by a very small man?

It has a chain drive so not for a DF loop. It could easily be from an aircraft.

It’s a little trim wheel for such a big aeroplane. Perhaps it’s for turning the D/F loop or similar?
