This is something I’ve fancied owning, but how legal is it?

Does anyone own one in UK?

One gust, buckled wing, pilot is a 6 foot diameter red circle with a Hovercraft on his head.
Not with me in it.
Then again it wouldn’t get off the ground with me in it. Problem solved.

It’s a very edited clip isn’t it.
It looks as stable as a plastic duck in a bath. One gust, buckled wing, pilot is a 6 foot diameter red circle with a Hovercraft on his head.

I agree with Rigga, Baz, why don’t you just go down to your local model shop, and buy a radio controlled one?.:D You could chase your blasted cats around then!:diablo:

Anything flying over 20kg (I think) needs to be registered with the CAA.
Like a hovercraft’s “flight” this will undoubtedly need a licence for the pilots – and then comes the “airworthiness” of the thing and on it goes… Noise rating, min speeds, categorisation, restrictions etc, etc.

I reckon there is a lot more opportunity to use that thing in NZ than in many other places around the world (because of how laid back things are here and all the space that is available to do so!).

Before people think they can operate a hovercraft absolutely anywhere, some places have noise restrictions in place, and hovercrafts do tend to be noisy!

I hate to be pedantic (….oh yes I do!) but Windermere isn’t a lake.
There is only one lake in the Lake District, and that’s Bassenthwaite Lake.
The rest are Meres, Tarns, and Waters.
And as Michael Cain would say, “Not a lot of people know that”.
Your a mine of information G.A. 😉

All of the commercial Hovercrafts are piloted by commercial pilots, though dont think little private ones need anything like that.
This is what you really want 😉

Isn’t this going to suffer the same fate as the flying car.
You’ll need a Pilots licence to fly it. A car licence to drive it. A boat licence to sail it. Probably a wind licence to blow it. A trailer licence to drag it.

…how legal is it?
I’m guessing that because it flies it would need a certificate of airworthiness from the CAA…..not sure about a pilot’s licence?

lake windermere has had a speed limit enforced mainly due to speedboat wakes damaging wildlife / nature
so i realy can’t see any complaints over something that leaves no wake !! 😀

I reckon I could fly it along the Gannel at Newquay nearly all year round. There are a few days of the year when the sea is flat calm, so flying over the sea would be feasable. Having to be rescued by the Coastguard is probable!
Just have to get well, then fit, then rich.

Hi Baz. Your health has to be top priority first and foremost, dream whilst your getting better!!!

Baz. Fantastic, the best of both worlds realy, however, not legal on the road, only privately owned waters, I doubt very much if even the water authorities would allow you to go on its ressies. I had a boat, and go fly fishing for Trout, and asked Rutland water if I could launch my boat and fish, they said no, as my boat may have some pests or other parasites on the hull that may affect the fishery.I would imagine that you could only use one on the sea, however where you are it may well be a no no as regards the surfers etc as it’s such a popular place.Still would like one though.
