Is this normal traffic near Guildford.

Been on a training course for a week down at Guildford and staying along the road in Great Bookham. Every evening I was sitting in the beer garden watching all the air traffic fly over.

However last night I saw the most concentrated amount of flights in 2 hours that i’ve ever seen.

I was here (streetmap link), and the bulk of the traffic was coming across from Weybridge direction, circling above the village (marked) then heading out towards Epsom. Other trafffic was traveling straight across from webridge direction towards reigate.

The planes where really cutting infromnt of each other and at one point both a 757 and 737 where around circling together no more than a few thousand feet apart!

Is this normal traffic for this area as it seems to be directly between both Heathrow and Gatwick.

I have tried looking for approach maps for the airports but can’t find any 🙁

Guildford is also close to the downwind for ILS traffic R/W24 at Farnborough, they get a lot of 737/BBJ traffic.

Here in Guildford, you get a lot of traffic for quite a lot of the day, it is close to LHR after all

Sounds like the Ockham holding pattern for Heathrow. Gets quite busy at the peak times with aircraft at 1000ft intervals from 8000 to 13000ft or thereabouts.
