But on a serious not whats your opinion of stem cell research ,is it as some say acting god and interfering with life,or are we providing possible cures for our fellow human beings. 🙂

Controversial I know but where would some aspects of medicine be without the Nazis?
I’m with you Dave – it has to be controlled otherwise where will it all end up?

Stem cell research probably now gets the reaction that radium treatment and even heart transplants got in the past. The fact is its invented albeit in its infancy its here and here to stay. The only thing that worries me is the regulation of it, where do you call a halt?.The growing of organs for transplant is probably be the first thing to happen, followed by development of disease fighting cells. As for testing the research on animals, i’m sorry heslop, but its a fact of life and death that testing will claim lives of the innocent ,animals and human beings.

Yes but it can also be said that availibility of resources to support the population growth will also increase. The fact that the Earth has already coped with the massive growth in the human population up till now, why will it not continue to do so? it’s unlikely that there will be a major population/resource crisis in the next few hundred years.
Possible new technologies developed by humans will also allow future increases in population to be supported at a high standard of living
yes so far the Earth has coped with the massive growth of us humans, but at huge cost to everything else. the trouble is with us if we are to survive everything else has to die. we can all talk about the damage and destruction we have caused. but hardly enyone talks about putting a stop to it. we humans think we own this beautiful world we live on. but we dont. if you put the Earths life so far into 24 hours we have been here for about 5 minuates. as i have said before we have no right to play with nature. we should stop trying to save the human race, it does not need saving. instead we should put all our brains into repairing all the damage we have done. what is the piont of saving the human race if we have nowhere to live.

Seriously though.
This stem cell progress is scary in many ways. Man is playing God, dealing with deep things, and yet the technology can improve quality of life for some poor individuals.
Where do we draw the line?
We humans are strange. We will let other humans lie in hospital and pump them full of stuff to keep them alive even when the outlook is bleak or the quality of life is questionable and yet if an animal (especially a deeply loved family pet, bear in mind to some people they become very much a member of the family) is suffering we put it out of it’s misery.
I think it needs to be controlled and ethically too.
It is odd but I find the story above a nice thing. It means that couples that love each other deeply enough to have a family can rightly have tehir own family.

Stem cell research is a good thing but it will prolong the life expectancy of everyone, that off course, puts pressure on resources and the environment.

By: sea vixen - 12th July 2006 at 12:02
i think this sort of research should be banned totally.. in my veiw its wrong. why cant us humans just leave things like this alone. what right have we got to play with the natural order.. 😡
