Israeli warplanes struck a Syrian anti-aircraft position in eastern Lebanon on Sunday. Witnesses said the Israeli aircraft had targeted a radar site and anti-aircraft guns near Serain, south of the ancient Roman town of Baalbek in the strategic Bekaa Valley, where Syria has a large concentration of the more than 20,000 troops it keeps in Lebanon. A Reuters correspondent said two radar antennae had been destroyed and the hills on which they sat were scorched black, sending acrid plumes of smoke into the sky. Blackened pieces of a truck and electrical equipment were scattered about. Syrian and Lebanese troops were seen digging into bunkers near the anti-aircraft guns, which were undamaged. (yahoo news)
This is the second raid Israel has launched against Syria in the last 3 months in the Bekaa Valley. My question is; Where is the Syrian Air Force? Is Israel some how avoiding detection from Syrian radars or does Syria just not want to confront Israeli pilots in the Bekaa Valley because of past experience?
Does Syria operate any S-300 SAMs yet? I would think Syria would start to put these SAMs in the Bekaa Valley so Israeli pilots would have a challenge when they come and bomb targets in the Bekaa Valley.
Can someone please shed some light on why the Syrian Air Force isn’t taking more steps to protect their airspace and radar sites.

I know this might be to much to ask but can we stay away from a religious war and flaming.
