Israeli Uav Enhanced With U.s. Radar

PARIS [MENL] — An Israeli-designed unmanned air vehicle has been enhanced with a U.S. radar.

The Hunter UAV, developed by Israel Aircraft Industries, has been equipped with a tactical UAV radar by Northrop Grumman. The U.S. Army demonstrated the Hunter and its new payload in a series of operational missions in Arizona in May.

Northrop Grumman said the May 8-14 tests were successful in demonstrating the use of a ground-operated synthetic aperture radar and moving target indicator to an existing UAV platform. Earlier, the army had tested the Hunter with a payload of Brilliant Anti-Tank and Viper Strike precision munitions.

Executives said the SAR provided clear, high-resolution ground imaging that enabled soldier operators to rapidly detect and classify stationary military vehicle targets. The MTI [moving-target indicator] capability allowed them to detect and map the paths of moving vehicle convoys.
