It could have been the Sea Fury's last 'kill'

Shamelessly posted from elsewhere today, what could have been a fabulous time-warp moment.

Following the usual “aircraft four miles south of Winchester southbound, are you on frequency?” and the subsequent, “we have an unidentified aircraft in the zone”, and the rerouting of nsome inbounds, on the Solent Approach frequency at lunchtime today, a slightly unusual outcome…

Also on frequency, the RN historic flight Seafury offers, “would you like me to intercept?” The controller was somewhat taken aback and was noncommittal in her reply. Sure enough, a few minutes later we hear the slightly more amazing information, “It appears to be a Beaufighter or Mosquito”. The controller is now thoroughly confused and asks for more information. “It’s a high performance twin engine fighter”, offers the Seafury. “Did you get a call sign?” asks the controller. “No but it’s in camouflage with yellow spinners”, advises the Seafury

Didnt one of the Mustangs carry a cow ‘kill’ markings after loosing its canopy the other year or am i going mad?

On that note i wonder if Shuttleworths Sea Hurricane will sport a kill marking soon.

I wonder if they both have the kills under the cockpit.

I know the Dutch B-25 flew with a crossed-out pidgeon under the cockpit, next to the mission markings after a birdstrike took out a glass nose panel on take off. Must have been the last B-25 kill in anger 😉

I fear there is a precedent, a well known French pilot that bust the London TMA when distracted by an airship (!) and ended with a 12 month suspension from the DGAC at the rquest of the CAA

Currently, yes.

But in reality it could be quite a serious matter for the French pilot. If Solent whinge hard enough, the CAA could contact the DGAC then a suspension of his licence is quite a possibility.

Given the French attitude to the weight limits for microlights I seriously doubt the DGAC would take any action. I get the impression their attitude is “As long as it hasn’t killed anyone it’s OK”.

Was that deemed to be the Skyraiders last kill then .

I wonder if they both have the kills under the cockpit.

Did the ‘Mosquito’ land anywhere else or buzz Hatfield or Sailsbury Hall. Would have turned a view heads if it landed at Duxford.

I thought the Sea Fury’s last kill was when one tipped a Fokker Triplane on it’s nose with it’s propwash the day we lost BBD at Duxford.

Currently, yes.

But who can blame the pilot at the weekend if he quietly slipped the gun button ring from ‘Safe’ to ‘Fire’ ?

But in reality it could be quite a serious matter for the French pilot. If Solent whinge hard enough, the CAA could contact the DGAC then a suspension of his licence is quite a possibility.

The chances are he was talking to London Info on our lamentable ‘Basic Service’ and thought that what was provided equates to his expectations of an FIS from Paris Info. Regrettably the two things are quite different animals.

An Aircraft recognition session seems to be called for.
