dark light

It slipped through, but appeared again….

Many years ago I was interested in an Avro 504 propeller but I didn’t follow it up. However a few days ago I received a suprise phone call from the now elderly gentleman who still owned it, asking if I would like it.

Attached are a couple of photos. It’s in quite good condition but has suffered slight damage to one tip. It is marked Avro 504-504A 80HP Gnome and is plain mahogany with approx 10″ of each tip covered with doped linen and painted olive Green (not I think PC.10). It has spent much of the last 90 years on various Rectory and Vicarage study walls but it was obtained from Hucknall aerodrome in 1919 by the original owner who’s father was chaplin there. Of equal interest there are some photos with the possibility of more turning up of other aircraft at Hucknall and Bickendorf. It’s now temporarily in my study. The prop is 9Ft dia.

Nice! I wish I had a place big enough to take it!

Blimey if I bought that home my misses would find some where big enough to take it!! But it’s a very nice prop and always nice to know the history……

Nice one, I only have a broken Luton Minor prop on my living room wall and a German first world prop blade just behind the TV.
