It takes a lot to make me really angry

But over the last few days I have been fuming about something and, rather than going away it just gets me more and more wound up.

In the immediate aftermath of the budget Ed Balls proclaimed that the planned reforms to pensions would lead to ‘reckless and irresponsible spending’

Instantly we can see how the politicians really view us – the poor sods who vote for them. We are in their eyes incapable of handling our own finances and need to be told by nanny government what we should spend our money on.

I’m getting even angrier as I write this.

OK they have back-tracked over the days since and are now agreeing it is a good move, but their true colours showed through in that first, knee-jerk reaction.

I have saved through much of my working life. Brown raided the fund so I will have less than i would have.. but if I want to draw the whole lot out and buy a Lamborghini (I won’t) that’s my concern. What about the guy who has been diagnosed terminally ill at 65, he doesn’t need to eke out the money, let him buy a flash car and enjoy those months.

Mr Politician – you don’t know better than us, we are not children, you are not all-knowing and wise.

Re 1

Politicians really don’t do irony ! I will frame that quote from Balls. Quite exquisitely delicious, coming from an unreconstructed socialist responsible for this countries indebtedness for the next twenty years – if we’re lucky.

If you are brave, pull out that £1,400 and stick it into FDEV (A games software company)

It’s a gamble, but I see the chance on a nice quick profit when they finally bring ‘Elite’ to market 😉

Be advised, shares can go down as well as up, or in my case generally even more

In the immediate aftermath of the budget Ed Balls proclaimed that the planned reforms to pensions would lead to ‘reckless and irresponsible spending’

It really pisses me off that the Country is so deep in the snit, our Military is being destroyed and cut to levels where they are no longer able to defend this Country, services to the disabled, libraries, fire stations and leisure facilities are closing left right and centre because the likes of Balls and the rest of their waste of space party carried out ‘reckless and irresponsible spending’ to attempt to keep themselves at the feeding trough for another 5 years… It annoys me even more that people blame this on the current bunch of trough feeders when they are simply trying to repair the crap they inherited… Worse still is that Labour might even get a chance to do it again… Blair should be tried in the Hague for war crimes along with Brown.

Cannot deride the budget though as some of my shares went up by £1400 in three hours 😀

Probably a combination of both.

Indeed. Having opted out of ‘earnings related’ at some point, it’s a private pension pot funded by my own contributions, my employer’s contributions and the government’s bit for the opt out.

The situation of having to buy an annuity was a nightmare. In simple terms you gave an insurance company your ‘pot’ and in return they gave you a monthly income. When you fall off the perch the insurance company keep anything that’s left over. You can judge by the amount that the insurance company shares have fallen this week just whose favour that worked in.

a few, that would ‘blow’ the lot; and then what? Is the state responsible for them?

They will still receive the state pension which the Tories are trying to get up to £150/week. Not a lot, but if you have no mortgage to pay then possibly just liveable off.

What ‘pension’ money are we talking about here? Is this a private pension pot that you (say) have been paying your own money into? Is it a private pension that your employer has been paying into? Probably a combination of both. Surely it is not a ‘state’ pension?

I must admit my first thought was that there would be some, a few, that would ‘blow’ the lot; and then what? Is the state responsible for them? I’ve heard it said often that it doesn’t pay you to save for your retirement; those that don’t and rely on the state are sometimes better-off!

I’m showing my ignorance here; my pension is something that I have seriously neglected.

Well at least the pension decision is absolutely spot on.

You can’t even use that as an excuse for them Linc. Balls was a Nottingham High School boy.
