dark light

It was painted yellow but what is it

OK yet another, What the hell is this bit from? thread
Looks aeronautical, was dug up on an ex RAF airfield. Made from Alu Alloy. No numbers visible etc.
Oh and it wouldn’t surprise me if it fell off the bulldozer 😉

the strut or ram that was attached here wasn’t large.

The attachment was at an angle

Is the body chamfered or worn away?

I’m no expert, but if the attachment was at an angle, could it be that the u/c retraction cycle involved a twisting motion of the undercarriage leg? If this is so, and it’s painted yellow, how about an RAF Harvard?

Nice one Typhoon/Tempest, I asked for that one 😀

Part of an undercarriage is what I thought it could be, but what aircarft had its undercarriage painted yellow? Could it be an Oxford?

The big puzzle is why it is in the collection of parts it came with. This part, and about nine others are the only ones from 300 items that I can’t identify as being positivley Horsa or Hamilcar.
I reckon that I’ve now identified something like 80% of all the metal components for a Hamilcar from this dig. (Considering the Hamilcar was the largest wooden aircarft built in Britain that much metal doesn’t amount to a lot of Hamilcar)

Its similar to one of the fittings on a double-legged undercarriage (ie. Lanc, Mossie, etc), where the cross supports attach to the strut.

Not Mossie. Mossie U/C cross-bracing has forked ends that are attached to eye bolts.
