An ex-copper told me that in his county a copper would leave his police hat in the back of the car, even when in civvies – the unwritten “LAW” was they would be exempt from a ticket if caught speeding or for any other ‘minor’ motoring offense.
It worked, too! (most times). Then came the CCTV, etc.
Same goes for Firemen. My neighbor got pulled over by 5 cop cars after he failed to see a row of cones on the A23 in Streatham one night & mowed them down in the pissing rain, narrowly avoiding cops flashing torches at him. They finally caught him outside his girlfriends place. He was so drunk that when he shut the drivers door he took the end of his thumb off.
Then one of the cops saw the fireman hat on the parcel shelf & after ascertaining he wasn’t going to drive anywhere else that night they let him off with warning & drove off. GF had to take him to hospital to get his thumb stitched up.

When did the law and common sense ever coincide…??:rolleyes::) I am sure there are enlightened cities where they have variable speed limits, or is that wishful thinking….?

I would like to think common sense would prevail.I am often going to work in the early hours and no other traffic or people about and yet our wonderful city is installing 20 mph limits–waste of time,people would be grateful to get to 20 mph at most times of the day.

If I was behind them for something like a Mile, I would have also booked them for driving Without Due Care and Attention, if you cant see a fully marked Police Car up your ar$se for a mile, you deserve what you get.;)

Haha! Well done, Linc – I couldn’t agree more. Although I must say I didn’t realise the offence was applicable in that circumstance. Although I suppose it’s a catch-all offence in many ways. I suppose it might be contestable in a magistrates court.

Dave, I agree, no one is above the Law. I frequently caught speeders whilst out on Patrol, and gave them a 10 MPH Leeway.MOSTLY, and depending on the drivers attitude when stopped.
