Firstly I do something I dont normaly switch onto Top Gear to see Jeremy Clarkson and little and large racing cars down an abandoned airfield in Albania to suddenly it appears come accross about 50 assorted Mig 15,17,& 19 just abandoned there complete with all the kit intact !!!
Then I have just turned onto channel 5 emergency bikers and they are escorting a dismantled C130 up the motorway.

About the only vaguely accurtae fact I suppose is that the Vampire has its origins late in WW2 nicknamed the Spidercrab .It flew to late to take an active part in world war two but I suppose can be loosely said to be a ww2 jet but definately not the T11 ,although yet again its origins do trace back to the Mosquito as it uses basicaly the Mosquito cockpit area with a steel bulkhead front and rear,it is built in the same way over concrete moulds in two halfs then baked and the halfs joined together or should I say the first ones were.
Just goes to show how economical with fact the media can be except of course for dedicated aviation media who know better !!

I dont know obviously someone who cant count. There ius one Near RAF Leeming we have got one and a half near Ripon so with that one there is three in the space of 40 miles I dead to think how many there are in th eMidlands.Air Atlantique has got how many is it two or three ?.Then there ar eso many in the south of England you could fill a Tesco’s carpark to overflowing and that does not include any of the other flying ones or the ones that Source had that someone was recently trying to flog off.(plus of course two in Malta plus a Venom).
NEAM have a complete T11, not 20 minutes from Shaft’s front door. His airworthy JP is more newsworthy. They didn’t pick up on my BAC 1-11 casually abandoned in a car park for a whole weekend when it was delivered…. 😀

Cracking journalism.
First the T11 is described as a WW2 fighter and it is apparently one of only two T11s in the UK! Where do they get these muppets

Well done Neil. You must be crackers, but good luck with it.

Stuff in the papers today as well, the Mirror had a pic of Neil McCarthy with his Vampire project.
Sorry but it was on TV as well, some good shots of the Vamp.

I haven’t seen the show but from google earth you can see the entrances to 2 underground hangars near the main body of aircraft – I wonder whats in them?

Hi TEEJ
Thanks for the very interesting links, it looks like an extremely interesting place for those lucky enough to visit.
I particularly liked the photo of the TS-8 Bies’s, that is one of my favourite aircraft, would love to get my hands on one.
Paul
No problem, Paul. I can’t see a TS-8? Are you mixing up the image of the two Nanchang PJ-6s?

The footage of the Bentley and the Mercs was the highlight of the show.

Me too.
I fear the brief glimpse of the Migs, fascinating though it was, didn’t make up even remotely, for sitting through the rest of it. Esp the cringe-making J Ross / J Clarkson … interview
Moggy
The mute buttons gets pressed whenever Mr Ross is on the TV…it’s become a sort of auto-reflex whenever I see his happy smiling face appear on my screen :diablo:

Excuses, Moggy, excuses – you’re really a TG fan :D:D
You could have recorded the programme then, afterwards, whizzed through to the airfield bit therefore not having to “suffer” the rest of it.

Yes, I was tipped off and forced myself to watch

If you do a search on You Tube there are also videos.
One interesting exhibit still on display in Albania is a USAF T-33 forced down in 1957.

It has lost a few bits since 2008!

Apparently the MiGs have been up for sale since 2002….strange that no deal has ever been done, the Albanians could sure do with the cash.

Anyone who can get it on iPlayer it’s about 50 mins in. What a treasure trove. Wonder if James May (who seemed to be able to tell the difference between a 15, a 17 and a 19) has seen the business potential there?
