It's Container Time Again

Seems ages since one was spotted, but i would be inclined to look for one outside a certain hangar on a well known airfield thiis coming Wednesday. Could be something we have been waiting for a while to see and I don’t mean a Vulcan.

Is this thread for real? Or is it just a wind up?
Just curious.

If it’s that dark, it must be a night fighter – P61?, F82?, Bf110? 😀

I seem to remember that TFC’s P39, an aeroplane similar in era and size at least to the P40, made the transition from box to flying in less than 5 days (faster than most ‘Airfix’ kits!!) without too much difficulty so I can’t imagine that the new arrival would present any more/less of a problem to get flying before the show.

Anyway, as it’s Wednesday, any news yet……

Cheers

Airspeed – The Lightning will act as a good tribute to the men lost in them over Occupied Europe whilst operating from the U.K . Coupled with that is the
sweet sight of the ‘undelivered’ finally arriving . The unfortunate loss of Hoof Proudfoot and ‘California Cutie’ seems to some to blight the type as a whole – I guess the best way we can honour the pilots – both wartime and post war who lost their lives in the type is to show the later generations what they flew in the fight for freedom.

I totally agree, I like many people witnessed the tragic loss of Hoof Proudfoot in California cutie, And a few years later the P63 crash at Biggin, But i feel that Glacier Girl is a flying tribute to all P38 pilots and i can not wait to see her finish her journey, It will be a honour to see her here.

When Glacier Girl touches down at Duxford the memories of the souls who fought for our Country will be honoured and Steve Hinton,John Hinton and Ed Shipley and all those involved are doing a fine job, I hope the weather will be kinder to them and no more tech problems.

clearly I would think that the only people that really know what is going on would be the people at TFC.!!

You know what’s going on in your place? What’s your secret, Digby ‘cos we never do at our place! 😀

I suppose it will be anorack time at Duxford on Wednesday or whenever the said container gets here. I cannot for the life in me see what all the fuss is about and why people give out what sounds like expert information when clearly I would think that the only people that really know what is going on would be the people at TFC. Bloody hell it’s only an aircraft!!!!!!

Never call it a plane Mr West it’s an Aeroplane ,:diablo:

Prehaps someone will do a Track the Container in real time website in FlightExplorer.com like they do on Operation Bolero II.

1) Driver, stops for a slash here.
2) Buys Yorkie here
3) etc..

Certainly some tetchy people on here a times. What I meant by a challenge was simply with two weeks to go before a very big show and with all normal airframe checks plus pilot checks to complete, putting togther an airframe, albeit complete and test flown, will almost certainly eat into the time available. I am quite aware of the skills and dedication of the TFC engineers and volunteers, what I do not appreciate are sarcastic and snide comments.

Thank you for clarification on this.

Perhaps if you had made this more clear in your original post it would have avoided any confusion.

Please explain this, you failed to explain in your last post.

Why will the P-40 be a challenge??

If you can’t answer it on this forum, pop into duxford on wednesday and explain it to the guy who put it together in the USA.

He’ll be there with the rest of us,maybe you can explain what you mean then?

Could I get some pictures for the web site when this takes place.

Well if the chinese were at pearl harbour then I guess maybe. I think it will be a challenge for the TFC engineers anyway, something along the lines of when Princess Elizabeth first appeared.

Yep it’s the P40 should arrive sometime wednesday, hopefully time and weather permitting might see the P38, 39 and 40 altogether. Although personally seeing a lightning over Duxford again is something I am looking forward to, just think it may bring back a few unwelcome memories. Don’t mean to be negative or morbid here, as I said just my own thoughts
