Fact: 85% of Americans have health care coverage of some kind…usually through work.

The trick here is to cover the rest WITHOUT messing it up for the other 85% (or bankrupting the country).

National health care works great in small and healthy countries like Sweden. But in the US, where there a lot of problems…and millions of illegals (and more coming in every day…they just announced a plan to let thousands of Hatian illegals stay inthe country for 18 months…do you really think they’ll go back when their time is up?)…it may not work as well.

Again, most conservatives aren’t against health coverage, but would like to see a better plan that the one being crafted by the liberals behind closed doors.

I saw this elsewhere posted by a US citizen, Republican obviously, but nevertherless that point of view is fairly clear.

“His health care plan has been a disaster. The majority of Americans are against it. The buy offs to states like Nebraska and unions is a disgrace. Our health care cost will go up, not down or even stay the same and not to mention bankrupt the nation. Our quality will go down as well. The way the Democrats have handled this issue is a disgrace.”

By the way, people from the USA are often surprised to learn that there is also a thriving private sector in UK health care.

Indeed and where, I wonder, would the NHS be without the thriving private sector. At the last count 7 million people had health insurance and just to make sure our Amercian friends do not misunderstand, these 7 million pay twice, once through their taxes for the NHS and again for their health insurance. If the insurance is paid for by their employer then they are taxed on the benefit, anyway.

Every American has health care….and all the illegals too. It is against the law for an emergency room to turn someone away who needs medical care.

It’s just not free, ie., it has a cost and the person receiving the care is supposed to pay for it.

Healthcare in the UK isn’t free either.

The NHS is paid for through direct taxation. We seldom think of it as compulsory medical insurance, for some reason.

Thank you for at least saying “free,” most people say, “denying health care” which is not the same.

FYI, most of the amublance chasing lawyers work on commission…ie., you don’t need any money to hire them. After they get their huge court settlement, the costs are passed on to everyone else.

Mmm – up to a point, but it doesn’t half need a make-over! But your comments about the differences in culture are well made. Most Brits are seeing the problem through their eyes and whereas there would always be a majority vote here for a form of NHS, the split is close to 50/50 in the USA.

It is freedom indeed, freedom to choose if you want a healthcare plan, or not.

Guys, the USA isn’t Europe. things work otherwise, mentalities are different. While a socialised healthcare works and is necessary here, it will not necessarily work there. It would rather bankrupt the country totally.

It is good news in the way that democracy works, and that the same party will not control the oval office and both houses on Capitol Hill.

Hope for freedom still exists.

Well it will certainly have brought a sense of reality into the lives of those who still felt the sun shone out of Obama’s ****. He hadn’t a chance to live up to the embarrassing hype of a year ago and he has, so far, said a lot but done little and is looking at a popularity rating below 50%. His inexperience has told so now perhaps a period of reflection will steady him for his next two years, because hat’s the most he has if he wants to be ready for a second term.

As I understand it, poor Brit that I am, the ‘domestic agenda’ talked of was some kind of health cover for everybody?

So not having health cover and ‘freedom’ are one and the same?
